Poetry
By James Horn
18th Birthday Poem This 18th birthday poem was written for a friend to give to her son as an alternative to the usual 18th birthday cards, as she felt she wanted something a bit more special to comemorate his 18th. She also passed it onto her friend who changed the lines it,s a boy to it,s a girl and this is my son to this is my daughter so that she could send the same thoughts to her daughter. Either way i think the poem works for both daughters and sons. Flesh and Blood Exactly 18 years ago On this very day I held my breath As I heard them say It’s a boy You must be thrilled And in that moment The tears that spilled Over the years You’ve made me proud And I’ve always wanted To shout out loud This is my son For all to see My flesh and blood Every part of me So on this day With love that’s true These chosen words I give to you
